Former model and beauty queen Yovanna Guzman wrote a book about her relationship with one of Colombia’s biggest drug lords ever, Norte del Valle cartel capo and alleged godfather of drug gang Los Rastrojos Wilber Varela, alias “Jabon.”
In an interview with newspaper El Tiempo, the controversial beauty explains the book is to “heal wounds” and to be able to explain to her eight-year old son that she was not one of Varela’s “whores,” but his girlfriend.
The book, titled “the Beauty and the Narco,” tells the story Guzman has tried to tell media a number of times before; She did not go out with one of Colombia’s most-feared capos for the money, she loved him.
“In the beginning i felt spoiled and that makes one fall in love. It touched me how he made me feel; the protection, the love and the fun he gave me,” Guzman told El Tiempo.
The fact that “Jabon” was one of the least attractive of Colombia’s long list of drug lords did not bother the model. “When I met him he was like 22 years older than me and not handsome at all. Obviously he didn’t please my eyes, but I loved the things he said. He made me feel important, that a man with so much money had interest in a woman like me.”
Despite her being impressed with Varela’s immense wealth, Guzman denies she was bought.
“Varela did not hire me with money. He also didn’t pay me,” said the former model, who in previous interviews admitted to have received several SUVs and a steady flow of jewelry.
When finding out Varela sent for other girls to please his sexual desires and being victim to verbal abuse, the former model did not leave the drug lord “because of pity. I felt I couldn’t do that. I thought I owed him so much and that he had been so good to me and had given me so much luxury.”
The model stayed with Varela until he was murdered in Venezuela, leaving her with the child she had with him. “It was a painful time, because on one hand there was the sadness of his son losing his father, no matter who he was, but on the other hand, I regained my freedom. It was like God gave me another chance.”
After publishing the book, the former model hopes to focus on raising the child she had with the drug lord and move forward. “I want that from now on nobody judges me. And if they do, I don’t care anymore. I got rid of the karma. I made a mistake and have paid for it.”
