“Don Mario,” one of Colombia’s most wanted suspected paramilitary drug lords ordered his men to attack any member of the Police or Army in the northern Córdoba department, National Police commander Oscar Naranjo said Friday.
According to Naranjo, Don Mario, whose real name is Daniel Rendon, offers 2 million pesos (US$1,000) for every member of the security forces killed.
Naranjo further announced that authorities stepped up security measures in the department to ensure the safety of the community.
Daniel Rendón allegedly ordered his men to attack police or army personnel regardless the circumstance.
The only person to ever have declared war on the Colombian State was Pablo Escobar, head of the Medellín cartel that controlled a large part of the drug trade in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Escobar was killed in December 1993.
