Colombia’s Inspector General’s Office on Thursday opened an investigation against Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno following a scandal about the allegedly fraudulent granting of public works contracts.
IG Alejandro Ordoñez announced that the investigation was opened following testimony by businessmen Miguel Lule who claims that the Bogota mayor and his brother, Senator Ivan Moreno are corrupt had received bribes from the Lule Group.
In the preliminary investigation, Moreno and 18 other city officials were asked to give testimony at the IG’s Office.
The Bogota mayor came under fire after he was accused by businessman Miguel Nule and fellow-Polo Democratico member Gustavo Petro of receiving a commission for public works granted to the Nule Group. Moreno denies the allegations.
