Colombian baseball player Edgar Renteria, Most Valuable Player of the 2010 World Series, said that Tuesday night’s victory came at the end of what has been a difficult year.
The Barranquilla-born athlete hit the winning home run in game 5 of the series between San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers, handing San Francisco its first ever baseball trophy.
Following the game, Renteria admitted that he had a feeling something special was about to happen: “I had to keep working hard and keep in shape because something good was going to happen this season.”
With home runs in games 2 and 5 of these World Series, Renteria secured his MVP-trophy. But it was no easy season for the Colombian, who struggled with injuries and had a difficult time convincing the managers of his abilities.
“It was a difficult year for me,” Renteria said.
Asked whether the player plans to retire after this victory, he said that he would have to think about it first.
Renteria, 35, has represented six different teams in Major League Baseball and won the World Series with the Florida Marlins in 1997.
