Colombian baseball player Edgar Renteria hit a crucial home run in Game 5 of the 2010 MLB World Series, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 4-1 overall victory.
The Giants had won three of the four previous games against the Texas Rangers, and one more victory at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, was enough to decide this year’s World Series.
The first six innings went by without either side getting onto the scoreboard, but the seventh brought vital points for the Giants after Renteria powered the ball into the stands.
With two more bases occupied at the moment of Renteria’s hit, his effort was good for three points.
Texas then pulled one point back in the bottom of the seventh inning but San Francisco held on to their 3-1 lead to win the game and the World Series.
Edgar Renteria had a difficult season at San Francisco, mostly due to injury, but reconfirmed his abilities with a home run in Game 2 of the World Series.
Thanks to his home run in Monday’s game 5, Renteria wins his second World Series. In 1997, the Colombian won Major League Baseball’s most prestigious trophy with the Florida Marlins.
