A Colombian judge on Monday sentenced a former army general to 13 years in prison for his involvement in drug trafficking.
According to the judge, the former commander of the 17th Brigade and the army’s intelligence unit, Pauselino Latorre, helped a drug trafficker belonging to the organization of arrested drug lord Daniel “El Loco” Barrera.
Latorre was found guilty of aggravated conspiracy and money laundering and was ordered to be sent to Bogota prison La Picota to sit out his sentence.
The former General was one of 24 who were arrested in 2008 after an investigation carried out by Colombian and U.S. authorities.
Among the arrested suspects was the nephew of Latorre, a former anti-mafia prosecutor, whose trial is still pending.
