After more than two years of investigation, Colombian authorities Thursday arrested eleven members of an international drug trafficking ring based in the capital city Bogota.
The suspected narco-traffickers were arrested in Medellin, Cali and Bogota as part of a joint operation between the Prosecutor General’s Office and the anti-narcotics department of the national police.
Oscar Gordillo Diaz, alias “Gordillo,” who was one of those captured, is believed to be the leader of the criminal organization.
Authorities say that Gordillo was in charge of recruiting human mules to transport cocaine and heroin to Spain.
The detainees will be charged with drug trafficking and intent to commit a crime.
