The amply talented Sofia Vergara is on a roll, busting into a list of the world’s 50 most beautiful Spanish speakers and winning a glut of new acting roles, reports RCN.
Proving that the Colombian city of Barranquilla can produce more than one hottie a generation, Vergara was headhunted on a Caribbean beach and, after her Catholic teachers said it was OK, became a model.
Next came work as presenter at the International Song festival in Chile, a highly-publicized romance with Mexican singer Luis Miguel and a move to Miami to escape the violence embroiling her family and to start work for the Hispanic TV network Univision.
Her TV career continued to flourish as she went from presenting travel show “Fuera de Serie” (“Out of the Ordinary”) to lending her charms to season four of HBO blockbuster “Entourage”, several ABC sitcoms, “Dirty Sexy Money” and, most recently, playing Alicia Oviedo in “Amas de Casa Desperadas,” Colombia’s version of “Desperate Housewives.”
As well as being recognised as one of the Top 50 most beautiful Spanish speakers, she is one of the world’s best selling calendar girls and appeared at number 62 in men’s mag Maxim’s top 100 Sexiest Women in the World.
If you want to see more of her, she will be playing Odile, a powerful cosmetics executive in the full-length movie of popular 80s cartoon “Smurfs”, expected in 2011, will be the voice of a penguin in the sequel to “Happy Feet” that comes out later this year and will appear in the Colombian remake of “Greys Anatomy.”
