Independiente Santa Fe and Atletico National began their group phase campaign in the Copa Mustang II with home victories over Atletico Huila and Deportes Tolima respectively.
Four days after winning the Copa Colombia, Santa Fe showed to have recovered from celebrations although the first half at Bogota’s El Campin stadium had little entertainment to offer.
Santa Fe improved their performance in the second half and Venezuelan striker Luis Seijas struck the hosts to a 1-0 lead on the hour mark.
Argentinian Omar Perez was brought down by the opposing keeper in the 75th minute and converted the following penalty himself, 2-0.
Tolima had the perfect start at Atletico Nacional, as Rodrigo Marangoni put the ‘Pijaos’ in the lead in the very first minute.
But Giovanni Moreno equalized in the 37th minute and Ezequiel Maggiolo netted Nacional’s winning goal two minutes before the hour mark.
