Foreign Direct Investment in Colombia reached US$4.078 million in thefirst half of 2009. According to President Alvaro Uribe this is anenviable position when taking into account the economic crisis.
Furthermore, the President praised the achievements of his government in this area. In the last few years the rate of FDI in Colombia jumped from 12 and 14 percent to an average of 24 and 28 percent. He recalled that FDI reached US$ 9 billion in 2007 and US$ 10,5 billion in 2008.
Uribe reiterated the commitment of the National Government towards the promotion of investment. He noted that his administration has provided stable conditions in areas such as recruitment and taxation for domestic and foreign investors.
“The only way to overcome poverty and building equity is through a sustained and high rate of investment. Everything else is only an electoral speech that ends, as always, in frustration,” said the President.
Uribe indicated that one mechanism to create jobs is through tax incentives.
The building of investor confidence and attractibg foreign investors is one of the cornerstones of the financial policy of the uribe administration.
