Colombia’s four largest cities said they
disagreed with their current obligation to pay 10 percent of all
revenue earned from traffic fines to the Federation of
Municipalities.
The Bogota, Medellin, Cali and Barranquilla Mayors’ Offices all threatened to withdraw from the Federation because they think the way it operates is unfair.
Medellin Treasury Secretary Mauricio Perez said “there isn’t a balance between the money that we hand over and the services that we receive for being part of the Federation”.
Perez said that the only thing holding Medellin back from withdrawing from the Federation was that they had to wait for the proposal to be approved by the Council. The other cities also need approval from within their administrations to withdraw.
