Medellin police said Saturday they have arrested the second in command of the organization of drug lord “Sebastian,” leader of the divided “Oficina de Envigado.”
According to the authorities, the arrested Jesus David Hernandez, alias “Chaparro,” is the commander of all assassins in the organization of “Sebastian.”
The 34-year old “Chaparro” had several arrest warrants against him for homicide and conspiracy. According to newspaper El Colombiano, authorities had promised a $100 thousand reward for tips leading to his arrest.
“Chapparo, who was arrested in the town of Envigado,” allegedly had most control over the urban militias working for Sebastian in the eastern comunas 8 and 9, where he originally is from.
The criminal had connections with prominent police official. The commander of the police department of Itagui, a municipality bordering Medellin to the south, was sentenced to 28 years in prison in October after admitting he had delivered four arrested criminal suspects to “Chaparro” in 2009, after which nothing was heard of the suspects.
A dispute over the control of Medellin’s underworld between Chaparro’s alleged boss Sebastian and fellow-oficina leader “Valenciano” left thousands dead since 2008, when “Don Berna,” the original ruler of Medellin’s underground and prominent AUC commander was extradited to the U.S.
