Colombia’s president-elect Juan Manuel Santos met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel Wednesday at the Reich Chancellery in Berlin, and will travel to Paris thursday to meet President Nicolas Sarkozy, reports El Tiempo.
Santos also met in London with the “Iron Lady;” former British prime minister and political legend Margaret Thatcher.
The closed-door meeting with the German leader lasted 30 minutes and was followed by a press conference at the Colombian embassy in Berlin, where Santos highlighted the good relations between the two countries.
Santos also noted that no ministerial appointments would be announced in the coming days.
On Thursday the president-elect travels to Paris where a meeting is scheduled at the Elysee with French president, Nicolas Sarkozy.
Sarkozy and Santos will discuss the future of relations and “the development of co-operation between the two nations,” while also covering regional and major global issues, according to a statement released by the Elysee.
Santos will again make a brief statement to the media before traveling to Spain, where the president-elect will meet with King Juan Carlos I on Thursday, followed by the final meeting of his European tour with Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero on Friday.
