Former Green Party presidential candidate Antanas Mockus said on Wednesday that he would have a hard time imaging President Alvaro Uribe as the mayor of Bogota.
According to Mockus, Uribe as mayor of Bogota “would be like a Bogotano running Medellin,” referring to the fact that Uribe is not originally from Bogota, but from Medellin.
Mockus also said that “it would be an interesting challenge to see who the Green Party would choose to run against Uribe” in the case that Uribe does run for mayor.
Mockus’ statements come in response to comments made by Uribe on Wednesday in which he spoke of his “affection and gratitude” for the capital city, which was his home during his two terms in office between 2002-2010, in addition to his two terms as a Senator from 1986-1994.
Asked whether he would consider running for mayoral office in 2011, Uribe did not dismiss the idea and instead confirmed an interest in “helping things run well” in the city. He added, “I would like a good mayor of Bogota, I like to see the city prosper and be managed well.
