Billboards showing Congress president Armando Benedetti saying “hey! I opened my eyes” were put up in Bogota on Saturday night as the senator is in Venezuela as part of Colombo-Venezuelan efforts to reestablish ties.
The billboards are an almost exact copy of billboards put up by Benedetti in August 2009 that said “Hey! open your eyes” and had photos of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa and U.S. President Barack Obama with their eyes closed.
As Benedetti’s website, calling on Obama, Correa and Chavez to “wake up” is still online, local media suspect sarcastic critics of the sympathetic senator to have put up the billboards.
