One of Colombia’s largest dairy companies Tuesday gave away 60,000
liters of milk for free in poor barrios in Medellin to reduce the
surplus of milk in the country.
Inhabitants of the neighborhoods of Comuna 13 in Medellin, where mostly displaced people live, had the opportunity to receive free milk from 7AM until 5PM. “If a women comes with a big jar, fill it. If she comes with a pitcher, fill it too,” a spokesman of the Dairy Cooperative (Colanta) told local media.
The donation takes place after Noticias Caracol reported last week that some producers throw away milk because “supply was bigger than demand”. The news caused outraged in the whole country.
This Wednesday, the company gives away another 60,000 liters of milk in the Simon Bolivar neighborhood in Bogota.
