A massive bronze sculpture by Colombian artist Fernando Botero in the figure of and titled “Horse” was sold for $938,500 at prestigious art auction Tuesday night.
The hulking horse sculpture was sold at a Latin American art auction in New York by Christie’s, a world leading art auction house.
The art piece made in 1999 reflects Botero’s use of “Renaissance epic beauty and great force,” reported Caracol Radio.
“Horse” was not the only valuable piece of Botero’s to be auctioned off on Tuesday, with several paintings and sculptures being sold for around half a million dollars. His paintings “Nun eating an apple” and “Woman” along with his “Reclining Woman” sculpture were sold to various art patrons.
A few other pieces by Colombian artists among other Latin sculptures and painters were sold in the high-end art auction where more than $16 million of Latin American art was sold last night. It is expected that this morning’s session of the auction will bring in a total of $20 million.
