Colombia’s labor minister on Wednesday announced his government will revise approximately 1,050 pensions after a court ruling ordering a cap on pensions for congressmen and high court justices.

In an interview with Blu Radio, Labor Minister Rafael Pardo said the country last year spent $13 billion on pensions and that over 1,000 pensions qualified for reevaluation would now be reassessed.
“We have to examine all pensions that are over the newly declared limit of 25 minimum salaries per year [$96,000], and then ask for resettlement, but first we need to make a close examination of the sentence” said Pardo, while reiterating that the ruling is a “very important decision for the country.”
President Juan Manuel Santos on Tuesday also expressed his approval for the court’s decision, declaring that it will “contribute to our objective: making Colombia a more equal country.”
