Colombian Interior and Justice Minister Fabio Valencia Cossio presented
Tuesday the country’s Security Strategy Room, from where, through
cameras and satellites, people can be followed anytime and anywhere.
The room, equipped with high tech equipment, will be operative 24 hours a day and allows the national authorities to monitor people and be in touch with police and army commanders all over the country through videoconferencing.
The technology can also be used to monitor the activity of volcanos or the possible approach of a tsunami.
The 500 million peso (US$195 thousand) Security Strategy Room can be used to follow any civilian, suspect or not, and can be used as evidence in court when one of the cameras or satelite images register a crime.
