The lawyer of the alleged leader of drug gang “Los Machos” has insisted that his client has no connection with the group whatsoever and is innocent of all charges, W Radio reports.
Paul Jaramillo, the lawyer for Hilber Nover Urdinola, alias “Don H,” who was arrested Saturday in the department of Cauca, is accusing the prosecution of having “no specific evidence, no solid evidence,” against his client.
Jaramillo argued furthermore that the charges against his client of criminal conspiracy and aggravated homicide were carried out by “Don Diego” and Wilber “Jabon” Varela during their feud within the now defunct Norte del Valle cartel. Urdinola’s attorney claims his client had nothing to do with these activities.
Jaramillo added that after the capture of Don Diego, Varela initiated a negative propaganda campaign against Urdinola using his links with the police to frame him and cover up his own part in the atrocities committed during the time of the feud.
Urdinola is accused by authorities of being in charge of 30 criminal networks with more than 60 men directly under his command and is allegedly responsible for maintaining control of drug trafficking in the department of Valle del Cauca for Los Machos, Radio Santa Fe reported at the time of his arrest.
Don Diego was extradited to the U.S. in 2008 and was sentenced to 45 years in prison in October 2009 while Valera was murdered in Venezuela in 2008.
