Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, one of the first Colombians to vote in the presidential elections, told reporters “it is more fun to watch World Cup games after having voted.”
Electoral authorities fear that today’s World Cup matches – Italy vs. New Zealand and Brazil vs Ivory Coast – will prevent Colombians for voting. Earlier, Colombia’s Registrar called on Colombia’s citizens to not let the world’s most important soccer event get in the way of their electoral duties.
Uribe, who will leave office in August, backed this message, saying “To watch the World Cup games is fun, sports unites humanity. But it’s more fun after having voted.”
