According to one e-mail quoted by the newspaper, the guards of the hostages, that had been abducted from the Department’s Assembly in April 2002, executed the deputies when they mistook approaching fellow FARC-rebels for rebels of the National Liberation Army (ELN). “A big mistake that will cause us a lot of trouble,” the e-mail says.In another email, current number one of the FARC, ‘Alfonso Cano’ instructs the group to attract the army to the place of the murder, so they can blame “the enemy” for the killings.The FARC had always said the hostages were killed in enemy crossfire.
