Investigators of Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s Office raided the
houses of two Congressmen who allegedly were bribed by the government
to approve the 2006 re-election of President Alvaro Uribe.
According to local media, the houses of Senator Alirio Villamizar Afanador, vice-President of the Conservative Party, and Senator Juan Manuel Corzo of the same party, were searched by assistants of the Court and prosecution investigators.
The court is investigating allegations by the former superintendent of notaries that several Congressmen received notary offices after having voted in favor of a constitutional change that allowed Uribe to be re-elected.
