A Dutch citizen was assassinated in the north Colombia city of Barranquilla Wednesday, local media reported Friday.
“We don’t know why they killed him. He had only been here for three days and didn’t know anyone,” the victim’s father-in-law told local authorities.
The 32-year-old Adriaan Charles Alexander, who was living in Curacao, one of the Dutch islands off the coast of Venezuela, was visiting his Colombian girlfriend who he had met when she was on holiday on Curaçao.
Two men on a motorcycle drove by the house and shot the Dutchman in the head.
According to his father-in-law, the victims was not involved in drug trafficking and in Colombia to pick up his girlfriend and their two-month-old daughter to take them to his home on Curaçao.
“Charles was a teacher on Curaçao, he had come to look for Liliana and my granddaughter of two months to take them with him,” the in-law said.
Authorities discard theft as a motive for the homicide as the assassins never even came close to the victims and fled immediately after shooting the Dutchman.
