A second re-election of Alvaro Uribe as President of Colombia is
inconvenient, agreed former Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos in an
interview. However, ignoring the will of 70 percent of the Colombian
population by not allowing Uribe to be re-elected would be
anti-democratic, Santos said in a second interview.
Two newspapers published an interview with Santos Sunday, El Tiempo and El Espectador, in which Santos — from Sunday on officially unemployed — talks about the 2010 presidential election.
In El Espectador, Santos agrees with Uribe that a re-election would be inconvenient. “To continue to stay in power can become inconvenient, but if the large majority of the country asks for a re-election, you can not ignore this wish,” the former Minister said. “It would be undemocratic” to even,
he told El Tiempo.
