The Colombian government sent a letter to Human Rights Watch, saying
Bogotá finds it “strange” that HRW never condemned attacks of the FARC
on medical missions.
According to the Colombian authorities, 142 medics were killed, 290 were threatened, 108 detained and another 15 went missing. The most recent case of violence against a medical mission occured last Sunday when, according to authorities, the FARC killed someone inside an ambulance.
“It is strange to observe the silence of Human Rights Watch about the above mentioned facts which are serious violations of humanitarian law,” the letter signed by Social Welfare Minister Diego Palacio.
Bogotá has repeatedly accused Human Rights Watch of partiality in the country’s violent conflict after being critized for human rights violations committed by the State.
