Camilo Ospina, Colombia’s ambassador to the Organization of American
States (OAS) resigned Wednesday. According to local media, the diplomat
hopes to be nominated by President Alvaro Uribe for Prosecutor General.
The diplomat represented Colombia before the OAS in one of the most difficult times for the country. He defended the attack on a FARC camp in Ecuador that killed Raul Reyes. Ospina also often needed to respond to accusations of human rights violations.
Ospina — Uribe’s former judicial secretary and Defense Minister — will continue to lead the Colombian diplomats in Washington until June 18.
