Police seized US$21 billion worth of property belonging to ex-paramilitaries ‘Los Mellizos’ and ‘Cuco Vanoy’.
Among the possessions captured were 31 properties, including farms and condos, four businesses and 19 luxury cars.
The seized property was in the name of Cristian Fernando Borda Gómez, known as ‘El harlista de la mafia’.
According to authorities the paramilitaries were based in the departments of Cundinamarca and Caldas. There they had laboratories where they processed cocaine that was later transported to Mexico, the U.S. and Europe.
Paramilitaries ‘Los Mellizos’ or ‘the Twins’ had demobilized but returned to paramilitary activities. One was killed and the other captured and extradited to U.S. on drug charges where he awaits trial.
Ramiro ‘Cuco’ Vanoy also demobilized but was extradited to the U.S. because he was believed to still be working with paramilitary organizations. He was sentenced to 20 years in a U.S. prison in October 2008.
