Luis Guillermo Giraldo, one of the organizers of the referendum that
seeks the re-election of Colombian President Álvaro Uribe, was called
for questioning by the Prosecution about alleged fraud.
The prosecution started a preliminary investigation into possible fraud in the financing of the popular vote, held in 2008.
DMG director David Murcia had said in an interview his suspected money lundering company had sponsored the referendum with US$2 million. Even though Murcia would not confirm this before the Electoral Council, the prosecution wants to hear Giraldo’s version of the story.
The referendum organizer has always publicly denied ‘dirty’ money was used to finance the referendum and said Murcia was trying to discredit the project to re-elect Uribe.
