Ecuador’s General Prosecution does not have enough evidence to indict
Colombian President Álvaro Uribe for his responsibility for the March
2008 bombing of a FARC camp in Ecuador.
In an interview with Ecuadorean newspaper El Universo, Prosecutor GeneralWashington Pesántez said that “if there is sufficient evidence the prosecutor will proceed [to accuse Uribe], but so far we have not found any evidence to do so.”
“It would be irresponsible to start accusing the president of Colombia,” the PG added.
The Colombian cross-border attack on the guerrilla camp killed FARC commander Raúl Reyes, one Ecuadorean citizen, four Mexicans and twenty Colombian presumed guerrillas.
Ecuador and Colombia have strained ties since the attack.
