ELN leader ‘Mauricio’ was killed in combat with Colombian armed forces announced Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos.
Galvis ‘Mauricio’ Flórez was the ringleader of The Bolshevik Front of the guerrilla organization the ELN. He was wanted for extradition to the U.S. and had 13 warrants issued for his arrest on charges of homocide, robbery, extortion, aiding the escape of prisoners and kidnapping.
According to El Tiempo Police Special Forces had had him surrounded for several days in the north of Tolima, a department in central Colombia. The guerrilla boss was killed in an armed encounter with the police when he attempted to evade capture.
Colombian authorities said that ‘Mauricio’ committed offenses primarily in the coffee region and in the south of central Colombia department Antioquia but his main camp was located in the north of Tolima.
