Colombian opposition senator Piedad Córdoba praised retired Cuban
leader Fidel Castro’s book on Colombia and the FARC because of its
contribution to the search for a peaceful solution, Cuban state media
reported Saturday.
The 82-retired dictator wrote released a book about Colombia’s conflict and his personal memories and views about the policies of deceased FARC founder Manuel Marulanda.
Córdoba is one of the Colombian Government’s fiercest critics in Congress and a close ally of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez with who she mediated the rescue of six FARC hostages a year ago. The Colombian government accuses her of having ties to the leftist rebels.
Castro’s La Paz en Colombia (Peace in Colombia) “is a very strong incentive to rescue the memory
of many men and women who have fought, and above all, have had the
courage of working for this country,” Piedad Cordoba allegedly stated.
“Due to the current circumstances in
Colombia, it is very hard to have a peaceful debate and exchange of
ideas, that is why proposals like the book make those of us who fight
for a negotiated solution to the conflict stronger,” she was quoted by Prensa Latina.
