Jailed drug lord Daniel Rendon Herrera, alias “Don Mario,” denounced a prison guard for an offer to buy a drug route, Colombia news sources confirmed Tuesday.
The ex-member of the paramilitary umbrella organization AUC and former drug kingpin Don Mario submitted a complaint to the local prosecutor general on June 15. The complaint was against a member of Colombia’s National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) who propositioned Don Mario to buy an alleged drug trafficking route.
According to the report, an INPEC inspector went to Don Mario’s cell and allegedly started the conversation by asking if the city of Cali was “hot after the arrival of Victor Patino Fomenque [a high-ranking drug trafficker],” and that if it was “hot,” he asked whether Don Mario wanted to stay in Bogota or move closer to Cali.
The same inspector allegedly asked Don Mario the same question months ago, but did not refer to Fomenque.
Video evidence and testimony from another cell member purportedly support Don Mario’s statements.
INPEC has responded by ordering an internal investigation to determine the validity of the former drug kingpin’s allegations.
