At least 28 soldiers were injured when a car bomb went off in the east Colombian Arauca department, local media reported Thursday.
According to the reports, the incident took place early Thursday morning just outside the town of Tame, less than 40 miles from the Venezuelan border.
The commander of the army’s 18th Brigade told newspaper El Tiempo the injured soldiers were keeping an eye on a car that was found abandoned and carrying a bomb on the road between Tame and Puerto Rendon on Wednesday.
A few hours after the soldiers had sealed off the area, the bomb inside the car was detonated.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals and the army said to be sending reinforcements to the area.
