Colombia will ask Venezuela to help fight drug trafficking in the northern region of the countries’ shared border.
At a security meeting in the town of Riohacha, Colombian Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera said he will ask the Venezuelan government to help Colombian authorities fight the drug trade in the Guajira department, where leftist guerrillas and drug gangs are highly active.
According to Rivera, there have already been talks with Venezuela’s interior minister about cooperation between security forces of the two countries.
The Guajira department is Colombia’s most northerly department and borders Venezuela’s Zulia state.
