General Francisco Contreras, commander of the armed forces in Peru, on Thursday said Colombia’s guerrilla group FARC uses Peruvian territory for military purposes.
Contreras specifies the FARC uses areas over the Peruvian border as a place to rest from the Colombian military offensive, they do not have any settlements there nor a strong presence.
The armed forces of Peru, Colombia and Brazil were set to hold a meeting Thursday to discuss security on their shared border.
Contreras said that there are plans to create a central intelligence agency for the armed forces of these three countries.
“The drug trade, which finances terrorist groups, is the biggest problem at the Peruvian border. Criminal groups are offering protection for the growth of coca and are able to fabricate drugs, our task is to fight those places”, said Contreras.
