The Colombian government will name a high security and defense adviser following a wave of rural guerrilla attacks on the security forces, W Radio reported Wednesday.
According to the radio station, President Juan Manuel Santos is currently considering at least three candidates for the task.
The idea is that the high adviser is appointed by the presidency and will assist Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera in combating guerrilla violence.
However, according to the radio station it is unclear whether the security and defense adviser will be at the same administrative level as the minister.
Following the president’s inauguration on August 7, guerrilla groups the FARC and ELN started an offensive against security forces that left more than 50 security officials dead.
