An attack on the main pipeline that provides Villavicencio with water,
leaves 90 percent of the capital of the Meta Department without water
for at least a week, local officials confirmed Monday.
The attack occurred on Saturday already, but it took to Monday, when the majority of the city was left without water, for local authorities to confirm the attack and its consequences.
According to official information, the 33-inch pipeline was destroyed with explosives on three different locations. Authorities do not know who is responsible for the attack.
Local authorities have immediately imposed measures that will have to secure the water supply for hospitals, schools and public places and say they need at least a week to restore the water supply to the city.
