Uruguay released Johanna Ivette León, wife of DMG director David
Murcia, Thursday after Colombia withdrew the request for her
extradition.
León, wanted by Colombian justice to be tried for money laundering and illicit enrichment, immediately requested the status of political refuge in Montevideo.
Murcia’s wife was arrested little over two months ago, because Colombia had put out an international arrest warrant against her.
Uruguay and Colombia have no extradition treaty, and even though an Uruguayan judge had allowed the extradition, Colombia said the conditions for Montevideo to extradite the subject were “unacceptable.”
