Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on Saturday demanded his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez to allow the people living in the countries’ border region to live as one community.
Uribe made his statement at an improvised communal council only miles from the Venezuelan border and no less than two days after Venezuelan authorities blew up two makeshift bridges connecting Venezuela’s and Colombia’s north.
According to Colombian media reports, the bridges were used by locals to attend school and do groceries across the border, but according to the Venezuelan goverment the illegal border crossings were used for drug trafficking and smuggling.
