Urabeños areas of influence

by Adriaan Alsema May 11, 2014

The Urabeños are Colombia’s largest and most powerful drug trafficking organization.

Following its foundation as an emergent group from the paramilitary AUC umbrella organization around 2005, the group has taken control of most drug trafficking routes to the Caribbean and Pacific.

Its dominance over the Caribbean was established in the first decade of this century when it was able to take over AUC drug trafficking corridors.

The groups subsequently began a successful offensive to take over part of the Pacific coast that had previously been controlled by the Rastrojos drug trafficking organization.

The map below shows the municipalities with reported Urabeños activity at the end of 2013.
