The Second National Congress of the opposition party Polo Democrático
Alternativa (PDA) concluded Sunday after three days of intensive
ideological debates that finished with the ratification of unity among social-democrat forces.
One of these evidences was reelection of PDA president Carlos Gaviria considered an agglutinating figure of all tendencies and political groups involved in the Pole.
With his reelection finished a massive activity in which Gaviria won with 794 votes for 471 to senator Luis Carlos Avellaneda who was also candidate of the post and was ratified as General secretary Carlos Bula with a large margin.
Gaviria who announced his resignation to be reelected during the opening of this congress last Thursday definitely accepted his appointment for a new period saying that responsibilities can not be avoided.
When the results of the vote were announced a chorus was heard in Corferias exhibition center saying unity, unity, unity.
In that way speculations of almost all the local press were destroyed over an imminent breaking of PDA.
The delegates agree the PDA must go with one candidate openly elected to 2010 presidential elections that is to say not only the party members could vote for him but all Colombians who wanted to do it.
