Authorities at Bogota’s La Picota jail find it increasingly difficult to accommodate Colombian Congress members accused of “parapolitics,” because the prison is running out of space, reports RCN Radio.
Colombia’s prison authority INPEC said that of the prison’s 48 rooms, 43 are occupied by lawmakers being tried for links with paramilitary groups.
This has led to a delay of more than six hours in the transfer of Tolima Congressman Javier Ramiro Devia, who was arrested for parapolitics on Tuesday.
The former governor of Cesar, Hernando Molina, sentenced to seven and a half years in jail for parapolitics on Thursday, will also be held in La Picota.
