The airline Spirit will be launching a new, direct flight path between Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the Colombian islands of San Andres in June 2010.
The announcement was made Friday by Colombia’s vice minister for tourism, Oscar Rueda Garcia, who described the new initiative as an opportunity for the San Andres islands, situated in the Colombian Caribbean, to capture the U.S. tourist market.
According to Garcia, it has been 10 years since a direct flight has connected San Andres to the United States, reported news site RCN Friday.
The vice minister met with aviation authorities, the governor of the San Andres department and the president of Spirit airlines in Miramar, Florida to discuss the new operation.
