The Liberal Party demands the
resignation of Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos after the government
sacked three generals and 23 other military officials for the
disappearance and death of eleven citizens.
The minister “can not wash his hands in innocence”, should take the political responsibility and resign the largest opposition party says.
“The situation is very delicate and has been going on for a long time. It has to do with the policy implemented by Juan Manuel Santos. He can not wash his hands in innocence and should assume political responsibility, just like the director of the DAS did a week ago. He should leave or be releaved of his duties by teh President,” senator Juan fernando Cristo said.
The coalition parties continue supporting the minister. Congress president Hernán Andrade of the Conservative Party said the decision to keep the minister or not is in the hands of the president.Former Defense Minister and Partiso de la U member Marta LuciaRamírez said the country must understand that the sacked officials have not yet been criminally convicted.
