The Colombian Goverment will invest US$62 million in infrastructure
projects to battle growing unemployment, the country’s Finance Minister
announced Tuesday.
According to Minister Óscar Ívan Zuluaga, his ministry has “designed a strategy of small and medium size works that will have an impact on employment on the mid term.”
However, Social Welfare Minister Diego Palacio said that authorities received requests of companies to terminate a large amount of jobs.
The Colombian Government is prioritizing the public spending on National, departmental and local level to give the country’s economy an impulse. Colombia has seen a steady rise in unemployment, which, especially in the cities, is getting even worse because of the global economic crisis.
