Forced displacement because of violence dropped 48 percent in 2010 compared to the year before, says Accion Social, the government agency responsible aiding displaced.
According to the government agency, 86,309 persons were forced to leave their home in 2010 compared to 165,306 in 2009.
The number of large-scale displacements did rise, Accion Social admitted.
In 2009 there were 42 registered cases of massive forced displacement where as in 2010 there were 58.
Accion Social said that 50,000 Colombians were able to return to their homes after they had been displaced.
In the coming year it will be be crucial for the government to help displaced people because flooding and landslides have caused huge amounts of displacement in Colombia.
