Suspected militia members from the FARC’s 36th Front killed two policemen in northern Colombia on Sunday, reported newspaper El Tiempo.
According to Colombian authorities, a number of supposed FARC guerrillas approached and killed the two policemen as they were guarding the annual festivities in the principal park of San Andres de Cuerquia, a small village in the north of the Antioquia department.
Newspaper El Colombiano said that the policemen were shot dead with small firearms. The alleged guerrillas then left several undetonated explosives in the park before they fled.
Europa press wrote that two more soldiers were wounded in the action, while newspaper El Tiempo wrote that the wounded were civilians.
The mayor of San Andres de Cuerquia decided to suspend festivities after the attack in show of solidarity with the families of the victims.
The FARC’s 36th Front is active in much in northern Antioquia and is considered to be involved in both gold mining and coca base production.
