Ecuador “respects” the decision of international police
organization Interpol to not include Colombian former Defense Minister
Juan Manuel Santos to its wanted persons list.
Police commissioner Rafael Yepes told Ecuadorean newspaper El Universario that he respected the choice of Interpol.
According to Yepes, Ecuadorean justice never asked for an arrest warrant for Santos, called a red notice, but requested a blue notice, which is a request to localize a suspect.
Santos is on trial in Ecuador for his alleged personal reponsibility for the March 1, 2008 attack of the Colombian military on a FARC camp just over the Ecuadorean border. In the attack, the FARC’s number two, Raul Reyes, and 25 others were killed. Ecuador and Colombia have had strained relations since this attack.
