Colombia and China are celebrating 30 years of diplomatic relations with a week of cultural events taking place at the Colombian embassy in Beijing, EFE reported on Tuesday.
The events will be attended by VIPs from the Chinese government, business, academic and cultural sectors, as well as Colombian diplomats working in the embassy.
Sunday saw ceremonies commence with speeches from Colombian Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez, and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang, before guests were treated to an evening of musical performances that fused styles belonging to the two cultures.
Members of the Beijing Symphony Orchestra performed interpretations of the two countries’ national anthems, as well as renditions of Colombian and Chinese folk songs.
Traditional art from the two nations will also be on display throughout the week.
“The long geographic distance cannot hinder a friendship, and with joint efforts will come excellent results,” said Jinzhang of the strong commercial relationship between the two countries.
Events celebrating the 30th anniversary will continue throughout the week, with further talks and musical performances in Beijing.
